    Why It Stands Out

The Maverick XL is built on a unibody platform (rather than a traditional body-on-frame truck) which gives you truck-utility with a smaller footprint easier to park, manoeuvre, and live with day to day.

It arrived with a genuinely attractive starting price for a new pickup: the XL FWD begins around $19,995 USD for the 2022 model year.

For those looking for serious fuel economy, the base hybrid powertrain version (which the XL FWD can have) hits an estimated 42 mpg city / 33 mpg highway when equipped with the 2.5L hybrid FWD setup.

Despite its compact size, it offers genuine truck-capability: a payload capacity of up to 1,500 lbs and towing capability up to 2,000 lbs (with certain configurations).

What Makes It Practical & Fun

If youre wanting a vehicle that can haul gear, do light towing, and still be economical the Maverick XL FWD nails it. Imagine commuting during the week with great fuel economy, then using it on weekends to move furniture, haul bikes, or take on a DIY project.

The smaller exterior size means less of the big truck hassles: easier parking, less wind-resistance, better manoeuvrability in tighter spaces yet you still get that truck-style bed and capability.

The interior, while simple in the base XL trim, offers clever utility: under-seat storage, a practical tailgate, good visibility, and enough room for five passengers (two front, three rear) in the SuperCrew layout.

    Why You Might Love It

Exceptional value: For the price of many compact SUVs youre getting a pickups utility.

Outstanding fuel efficiency (especially hybrid version) for a truck-type vehicle.

Versatility: Acts like a crossover when needed, and like a pickup when you actually use the bed.

Great for everyday driving + occasional utility, without the bulk or cost of a large full-size truck.

    • A solid choice

I’ve had my Lariat for 6 months now and I am happy with it. Although the entry models are very well priced for a brand new vehicle, I chose the Lariat without any upgrade packages as the XL & XLT do not have the current “luxuries” that most would consider standard in a new vehicle. (Push start, dash screen, “leather” seats) The Maverick is the perfect vehicle to suit work and everyday life without breaking the bank. Pros: well priced, well designed interior with ample storage, good on gas, comfortable seats, strong engine, great handling and overall feel without the overbearing ride and size of a truck. Cons: engine auto stop/start cannot be permanently disengaged, sync/bluetooth system can be glitchy on occasion, wind noise at highway speed is noticeable, adding extras to your build can get very pricey.

It took me a year, but this past summer my Ford Maverick finally came in. I got the XLT trim with only 2 options, the Blind Spot and the 2.0 Eco Boost engine for more power. So far, it has been a great truck. If I watch my rpm.s, in the econ mode I get 30 mpg around town and on the hwy. The only issue so far is a clicking type rattle in my dash that only happens on certain slow bumps in my neighborhood, once I am on the highway it goes away. Strange. Anyway, if you miss the Ford Rangers from the 90s, this truck reminds me of a 1996 Ranger I used to have back then. It is a very solid truck, loads of room in the cabin, great bed to work with, and since it is front wheel drive I am looking fwd to seeing how it does in the snow this winter. If you order one, get the Lariat, for a few thousand more it is worth it. Hope this review helps ! PS, I was thinking of ordering a 2023 Ford Bronco 2 door, but when I sat in one at a local car show, I realized my Maverick was much more roomier and comfortable than the full size Bronco. I will stick with my Maverick !

Reviewed my 22 lariat AWD last year when I’d had it for 2 days gave it a 4 star after owning it 18 months and 29K miles I’d raise my satisfaction rate to 4.7 stars. Great milage averaging 33mpg. Like it so much bought the wife a slightly used 23 lariat hybrid. Like it even better than the AWD after 4K and 1 month ownership averaging 46mpg that’s 75% highway. Pros: mileage on either hybrid or AWD model, ride is not too bad, fells planted to road, adaptive cruise/ lane keep/ aeb braking. Easy to park Cons: no power passenger seat, no fog lights, door pockets are worthless can’t keep travel mug or bottled water in as they won’t fit, ice scraper falls out every time open or close door. no auto dimming rear view mirror, bed leaks with installed cover, not enough room to adjust power seat with door closed. If Ford would fix a few minor things they’d have the perfect truck.
