If your engine is overheating, you may notice that the thermostat gauge on your dashboard is showing an issue. However, having the hood of your vehicle be hot to the touch, having smoke coming out from under the hood, or seeing coolant leaking out of the bottom of your car can all be signs that something is not quite right. This is the time to call Reliable Chevrolet for more information. We want one of our trusted service technicians to diagnose what the problem may be.
Checking Your Cooling System
Your cooling system is designed to keep your vehicle at a very specific operating temperature. When the cooling system isn't working correctly, your engine can become too hot or too cold. We typically see engines running too hot, which is often the result of a coolant leak.
Is Your Water Pump Working Correctly?
When you have water pumping through an aluminum pump, there's rust that will occur over time. Corrosion is also something that we watch out for as your vehicle ages. If too much corrosion or damage occurs, you'll notice that your vehicle is overheating because of a lack of pressure inside the pump. Coolant can't be adequately utilized in this scenario.
Radiator Damage Leading to Temperature Concerns
The radiator in your vehicle will expand and contract as your engine is running, and this constant wear and tear can lead to overheating. Internal fans won't work as well to cool off the engine.
Thermostat and Valve Issues
The thermostat on the internals of your automobile will help monitor the temperature of your engine. Still, it will also result in several actions occurring to change the temperature. A valve will open and close to allow coolant through, but coolant can't pass through if there's a problem with the valve.
Hoses and Belts
A belt can slide off or snap in half while your engine is running, and hoses can develop holes or splits that lead to issues with your engine temperature.
Don't put off contacting Reliable Chevrolet if you notice that your engine is overheating. You don't have to notice an extreme case of temperature fluctuations, but it's a good idea to have things checked out as soon as something doesn't seem quite right. We'll bring you right in for an appointment with one of our knowledgeable service technicians at Reliable Chevrolet.
