Chevrolet Engine Not Working

Why Is My Car Not Starting?

Not being able to start your vehicle is an extreme inconvenience. Whether you need to get your kids to school or you're already in a rush to get to work, you need that engine to turn over as soon as you try to start your vehicle. If you're experiencing issues, Reliable Chevy has some common issues that might be taking place. Our technicians can determine which problem is keeping you from getting where you need to be.

Battery Issues

If your battery is not fully charged, your vehicle isn't going to be able to start. A battery can develop issues because of its age, because of corrosion on the inner connections of the battery, or it may have recently been exposed to extreme temperatures. You may have noticed that your battery has been protesting a bit by way of dimmed lights or the engine not turning over quickly enough. Some vehicles will alert you that there's an issue with the battery by throwing off a check engine light or illuminating a battery indicator light.

Ignition Problems

If your battery tests out ok, then your ignition is the next thing we look at. Your ignition switch may be broken if your headlights are working, but the engine isn't turning over.

A Bad Starter

The starter in your automobile is basically an electric motor that is connected to your vehicle's battery. When you turn on the ignition, the starter will engage. When you experience a clicking sound, or the engine isn't cranking at all, the starter may be the culprit.

Fuel Filter Malfunction

Your fuel filter is designed to last anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 miles. The time frame may be a little longer if you have a new vehicle. If your fuel filter becomes clogged, gas can't get to your engine adequately. If you're not burning enough fuel, ignition doesn't catch. Check out your owner's manual to see what the life expectancy is for your fuel filter, or contact our service department to see what the plan of action is.

Empty Fuel Tank

Many people forget that they need to stop for gas, and they don't realize that they don't have enough fuel in their vehicle to start the engine. Your vehicle will alert you when you don't have much fuel left, so keep an eye out for this indicator.

If you're having issues with your vehicle not starting, contact Reliable Chevy to set up an appointment with one of our service technicians. We can help you go through this list to see what the problem is.
