In advance of the “legendary DAYTONA 500 race” this year, Chevrolet debuted the Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype. Though it didn't turn a lap in competition, it offered a vision of electric racing's next chapter. Below are its most impressive aspects.
High-Performance Electric Powertrain
Rather than a traditional V8, the Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype uses an all-electric drivetrain. The three six-phase motors churn out about 1,300 horsepower and accelerate to 15,000 rpm.
That output is controlled via a programmable all-wheel drive system for exact torque balancing. It is mounted on a modified Next Gen chassis and features specialized suspension hardware and Goodyear Racing Eagle tires.
True Race Car Styling
Though its design is based on the “road-going Chevrolet Blazer SS EV,” the EV.R's race enhancements are unmistakable. A broad body and high rear wing improve aerodynamics, and its very low stance helps it stick to the pavement through corners.
Motorsports Innovation
With the EV.R NASCAR Prototype, Chevy explores bleeding-edge technologies that are destined for track success and eventual use in production models.
